A 5-year-old boy was transported to a Salt Lake-area hospital in critical condition after he fell over the prow of a motorboat in Vernon Monday morning.
According to Tooele County Sheriff Lt. Travis Scharmann, the boy was seated at the front of the boat when he was fell overboard. The boy was either run over by the boat or clipped his head against it after he fell into the water at Last Chance Lakes, a private recreational lake, around 10 a.m. Monday, Scharmann said.
The boy was unconscious when he was retrieved from the water but was wearing a life vest, police said.
As a result of his collision with the boat, the boy had a laceration on his head and a skull fracture, Scharmann said. The boy was alert and talking when a helicopter arrived to transport him to Primary Children’s Hospital in Salt Lake City, according to Scharmann.
The 5-year-old boy was expected to go into surgery yesterday but there has been no update on his condition since the accident, Scharmann said.
