A Tooele man and Payson woman have been charged in 3rd District Court after he was arrested in connection to theft and drug possession in November.

Ryan Jeffery Hogan, 32, and Autumn Linne Johnson, 21, are both charged with second-degree felony theft, as well as misdemeanors for theft by receiving stolen property, two counts of possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia.

A Tooele County Sheriff’s deputy saw a black Chevrolet Impala in the area of Tahoe and Mead streets in Tooele City around 1 a.m. on Nov. 25 that had been reported stolen out of Payson City about a week earlier, according to a probable cause statement. The vehicle was unoccupied and Payson City police were contacted on the stolen vehicle and the stolen property within.

During the conversation with Payson City, the sheriff’s deputy was informed the vehicle was stolen by Hogan and Johnson, the statement said. The deputy made contact with Hogan’s family in Tooele and was able to make contact with Hogan and Johnson, who agreed to speak with him.

When questioned about the stolen vehicle, Johnson and Hogan seemed to not know what he was talking about, according to the probable cause statement. They said items left in the vehicle were theirs but later changed their story to say some of the vehicle’s contents may have been left by the registered owner.

After they were placed under arrest, Hogan admitted to driving the car from Payson and said some of the property reported stolen was in the trunk, the statement said. When police searched the vehicle, they also found drug paraphernalia including pipes, scales, baggies and burned foil, in addition to marijuana and prescription medication.

Hogan made his initial appearance in 3rd District Court on Monday and was assigned a public defender and bail was set at $10,000. Johnson’s initial appearance was rescheduled as she had been transferred to Utah County for a court appearance. Her hearing was continued to Dec. 12 at 10:28 a.m.
